Residence: Barnaby grew up in Abalathia's Spine, lived his young adult life in Ul’dah, and now lives in the Shroud in a secluded cabin.
Occupation: He is a knight-errant and bodyguard. Barnaby resides not far from Gridania, and considers himself a self-appointed guardian of the people there. Recently, he traveled to live in Ishgard, where he works as a guard for my alt, the priest Pallas Solorois. Pallas's carrd can be viewed at https://pallas-solorois.carrd.co.
Orientation: PansexualGeneral Appearance: Barnaby Wyznfarr is gifted with the natural stoutness of the Hellsguard roegadyn clan. He has bone-white skin, black hair, and blue eyes. His beard and nails are neatly trimmed. While not in the field, he smells faintly of cedarwood and lilac from the oils he uses.His neck and trunk are thickly corded with muscle, the physique of someone who works with heavy arms and armor on an almost daily basis. Despite his outward size and power, his mannerisms are reserved and cautious. His speaking voice is soft, and he is exceedingly careful with his hands, as well as the way he maneuvers his body in public spaces. In general, he is polite, gentle, and introverted.Other Details: Barnaby works as a free paladin and guard, drawing his sword to protect others from coming to harm, or to exterminate monstrous threats as they arise. Due to his profession, he is no stranger to bloodshed. However, he finds wanton violence unpalatable, despite coming from a gladiatorial background.To help him cope with the sometimes disturbing and sorrowful situations he is exposed to as a guardian, Barnaby pursues cooking and baking as a hobby. He also has a large potted plant collection.His property includes a pasture and a large, gentle-dispositioned destrier, which he has named Dumpling. He also keeps a number of beehives.Barnaby owns a tuxedo kitten, named Mittens, which he found as a stray while working as a guard for House Voutellievre.

Backstory

Like many Hellsguard roegadyn, young Barnaby came to Ul’dah with the dream of making a name for himself. He joined the Gladiator’s Guild with scarcely more than the clothes on his back. Fortunately for Barnaby, a miqo’te gladiator by the name of R'sohka Tia took him in, teaching him the way of the sword, and providing the roegadyn a place to sleep until he could find his own footing.Barnaby worked as a gladiator of Ul’dah’s coliseum for a number of years. However, after a terrible accident in the ring where his dear friend R’sohka Tia was killed, his outlook was irrevocably changed. So shaken was he, that he left the gladiatorial ring behind, and has not stepped inside it again since. Barnaby doesn’t freely talk about this event, though it weighs on his psyche in subtle ways.Despite his physique loaning an appearance of power, Barnaby can be a hesitant man. He sometimes suffers from feelings of anxiety, or body insecurity. The violence of his profession occasionally haunts him. In general, he is a deeply feeling man who worries for those he cares about.Lately, with the help of his friends, he is learning to grow through some of his inner blocks, and find peace with himself.

RP Hooks

Barnaby Wyznfarr’s character concept involves the idea of a large, possibly intimidating-looking person actually being very gentle. He has a careful, polite demeanor that more quiet individuals might find welcome.Conversely, I find it entertaining when my character gets flustered, or pushed off-center somewhat. More outgoing folks who might be very different from Barnaby personality-wise, or morality-wise, can be very entertaining to play off of him.Barnaby is not violent, but he is an excellent, stalwart guard, if someone might have need of such a service.Due to Hellsguard customs and traditions regarding the afterlife, Barnaby is rather superstitious of the possibility of ghosts and the undead. He believes they are to be treated with respect... and caution.He loves food, and the simple joy of eating. Breads, tarts, and fruit pies are some of his favorites, but he's not picky.Barnaby has a younger cousin, whose name is Jungbhar Wyznfarr (also a character I play). Jungbhar has lived most of his life in a traditional Hellsguard tribe, and is something of a himbo. The two cousins are very affable towards one another.
